Have an upholstery project in your home, office, or basement that has been staring at you for the past six months? Want to be finally be able to tackle that dream of upholstering your own headboard?
Nicole Crowder's Spring upholstery workshop is here to give upholstery and home decor enthusiasts basic skills and tips on how to approach those small projects like chairs, benches, ottomans like a pro. The hope is to empower you with confidence to tackle even larger projects like headboards, full-reupholstered chairs, and more at home.
The 3-hour session is designed to maximize your hands-on time learning and executing basic skills for starting and completing one upholstery project. Workshops are designed to be able to provide more personal attention in a fun, stress-free atmosphere, and will include a 15-minute break.
Cost/session: $110 (plus service fee)
Class Size: Limited to 6
What you'll learn in each class:
-How to properly and safely tear down and reassemble chairs using certain tools.
-Fabric and yardage, and determining how much to use on various projects.
-Materials needed for padding and reupholstering.
-Short cuts to help achieve the job with maximum results
What to bring:
-Your small chair or bench. What if I don’t have a chair? No, problem! We will happily provide you with a demo chair at an additional sourcing fee of $10, due at the beginning of the class. Please notify Nicole at least one week prior to your class to allow time to source a chair. Also, the Goodwill is an excellent place to find low-cost demo chairs. (I've scored several for just $5!)
-I will have spare fabric remnants on hand at varying small yardage. If you have a preference for the kind of fabric you would like to use, please feel free to bring with you!
- No need to worry about tools and supplies! All tools, foam and/or cotton needed to re-pad your item will be provided to the class.
Nicole Crowder is the independent furniture designer and upholsterer behind Nicole Crowder Upholstery based in Washington D.C. A DIY enthusiast, she has been upholstering furniture for clients since 2013.
Nicole is also the founder and photographer for Haven, a travel and interior design site dedicated to spotlighting brilliantly and beautifully designed boutique hotels, B&Bs and apartments around the world. When she's not rummaging through antique stores, Goodwills, and estate sales for unique chairs, she serves as a Contributing House and Hotel Tour photographer for interior-designed-based website Apartment Therapy. Nicole was also previously a Photo Editor for The Washington Post, Netflix, and AARP.
