TRAVEL SKETCHING: SKETCHING WHAT YOU SEE AS YOU EXPLORE A CITY
THIS time the city just happens to be your own!
No matter where you are in the world, as long as you have something to write with and write on, you can always document your experience through the timeless skill of sketching. Not only does sketching slow you down and make you more aware of your environment in the moment, it can provide a wonderful, personal snapshot of your experience that you can look back upon in the future.
This class 2.5 hour class will meet for 30 minutes at the Lemon Bowl for an introduction to sketching; then we will hit the streets! The class will walk to nearby landmarks and practice sketching architectural features in en plein air -- okay, that is just a fancy way to say 'in the outside open-ness of real fresh air!' At each landmark, the class will do a guided sketch exercise and then have time for induvidual sketching.
This class is taught by Lindsey May. Lindsey is an architect in DC and teaches architecture at the University of Maryland. Her travel sketching experience stems from her professional and academic travels to: China, India, Nepal, Colombia, Abu Dhabi (UAE), and England.
Ticket includes everything you will need for a successful travel sketching afternoon:
- Sketching Tutorial
- Hands on assistance in the field
In the event of inclement weather, we will focus on indoor public spaces in the neighborhood as opposed to outdoor features.
If you have any questions, feel free to email Lindsey via firstname.lastname@example.org!
